The Howard Center is "small but influential," and is one of only four organizations offering a distinctive way of "thinking about the worldwide needs of families." The other three are The United Nations, The World Council of Churches, and the Roman Catholic Church.

"Although located in the small Midwestern City of Rockford, Illinois, and under the savvy leadership of its president, Allan Carlson, this little-known organization is at the center of an emerging conservative religious and political strategy on families. In its publications, books, and international conferences..., the Howard Center has developed a distinctive position on family issues.

...The Howard Center is also pro-natalist. The so-called threat of overpopulation, it believes, has been greatly exaggerated and is rapidly curing itself as birthrates plummet around the world. It holds that quite rapidly the elderly everywhere will outnumber the young, and modern economies will be crushed with the burden of sustaining the aging."

The Howard Center Hires New Vice President, Lawrence Jacobs

The Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society has hired a new Vice President for Development and Public Relations: Lawrence D. Jacobs. Larry comes to the Center from the Cincinnati, Ohio area where he has served for the past two years as President & CEO of Healthy Beginnings, a non-profit, Christian medical practice and healthcare ministry that provided medical care for women and babies in seven locations in Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio. Before that, he was a Manager of New Products and New Business Development at the Procter and Gamble Company where he helped launch new consumer products such as Dryel, Fit, and Febreze. He holds a B.S. degree in Environmental Science from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania and both an M.A. (Economics) and M.F.S. (Natural Resource Policy) from Yale University. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Jennifer and they have two children, Amanda (age 7) and Aaron (age 4).

Larry was recently selected by the Cincinnati Business Courier to the 2003 Class of the Forty Under 40 Program, a recognition and awards program for business, economic and community leaders - all under the age of 40. "These leaders will help shape the Tri-State, given their already considerable professional achievements and community involvement," according to Doug Bolton, Publisher. These leaders were selected from a record number of 250 nominations and will be honored at a special awards banquet and half-day program on October 3-4 in downtown Cincinnati.

"We are pleased to have Larry on board to increase our ability to shape ideas that make a positive difference in the lives of families, locally, nationally and internationally," said Howard Center President, Dr. Allan Carlson. "Larry's addition will help us gather the resources to continue our family research and promote pro-family policies through events such as the World Congress of Families, III scheduled for March 29-31 in Mexico City."
